Le Marquis de Tristan

35m2 / 2 guests

The Marquis of Tristan would have liked to know how comfortable this room would become. He had this residence built from 1757 onwards within the hotel of the Treasurers of the Sainte-Chapelle, which his son then sold to the Marquis of Panette in 1818.

Installation details

On April 25, 1757, by order of the sovereign, the Sainte Chapelle de Bourges
was destroyed and the house of the Lord Trésorier was ordered to be put up for sale as it was. Lord Tristan who will buy it for 10,000 livres.

We do not know the state of the building and the work that has been carried out at the time.

Tristan will die before 1762, leaving his two sons who were then raised by
their uncle, responsible for finances in 1776.

The eldest was admitted to the 1st company of musketeers of the Guard at the age of 16.

Returning to Bourges 3 years later, the Marquis married Mme Moreau de
Chassy.

Devoting himself to works of the mind, he participates in the first Masonic
lodge of the city. He also joined La Minerve, the new workshop set up in
1787 by the local nobility.

A liberal aristocrat, Tristan is far from being a declared enemy of the
Revolution.

Struck by the premature loss of his wife and the low longevity of his
children, the Marquis de Tristan will live alone, dividing his days between
the castle of Soupize and the apartment of which he kept the usufruct in
Bourges, in the private mansion which he had sold in 1818 to the chief land surveyor : Gabriel de Panette.
